Surgery Tips (From other dog moms/pops)

May 15, 2018

Most prospective pet parents are unaware that French bulldogs often face a long road of health problems. Even the healthiest French bulldog will eventually face health issues, like all brachycephalic (short-faced) and dwarf dog breeds. Some of these health issues require major surgery and/or other small hospital procedures. With any invasive surgery, there's always a potential for complications. However, in bulldogs and french bulldogs, the anesthesia can be riskier than other breeds. Not to mention...veterinary malpractice. Luckily, the latter is not as common.

As many of you know from our previous posts, Anmitsu was spayed 3-weeks ago at 18-months. Although the decision to spay her was a personal choice, the significant anxiety experienced pre- and post- surgery was extremely stressful... MORE stressful on the first day after bringing her home. So I reached out to a few french bulldog parents for help and advice. Here are a few!

@mexafrenchies Dont let her jump. After the scar heals, she must keep calm for 15 more days, like no jumping. Give her a lot of kisses.

@leynagirl Adding water to food helps!! poop can take 48 hours. It's the dehydration/anesthesia and just overall surgery. She'll be more sedentary than normal.

@littlemisskaycee Best looking cone I’ve seen. Hang in there Anmitsu! Rest up and have Mommy bring some yummy flavored popsicles your way to 👅 🐶😘

@lexi_black_and_white The most important tip is lots of love, hugs and kisses. My pawrents had stayed with me 2 whole days without leaving ❤️❤️❤️ feel better soon sweetheart 😘 im thinking of you ❤️❤️❤️

@vidathelittlebully We used the inflatable Cloud Collar by @kongcompanywhich served as a pillow too since all those cones are super uncomfortable during an already painful time, some fruit and soft treats helped with all the meds I had to take when I got spayed. Wishing u a healthy recovery 💕

[NO PICTURE AVAILABLE]     @yourfrenchiehankpumpkin purée for dogs mixed with their food is really good for the fiber and digestive system for the two weeks of recovery!

Surround yourself with a good community. It makes the difficult times bearable!
